Castrojeriz Hike

Our First Hike to Castrojeriz! 

Castrojeriz is one of the stops in the Camino de Santiago for the pilgrims and it contains a beautiful history. The village in Castrojeriz was destroyed by the Arabs and in 882 the captain of the village Nuno Nuñez repopulated the village. Castrojeriz castle was located at the top of the mountain for a reason, so the enemy would not get the people. Even though this castle was located very high up, it still got attacked several times. The structure nowadays, is a little bit destroyed due to this many attacks that the castle had, however, you can still appreciate the views that the castle brings and the old history that it has. 

Castrojeriz is located at the top of a mountain in the province of Burgos and we took the adventure of walking/hiking up the mountain. Hiking up to the mountain was an interesting and fun time, we had to go up to very high heels and paths that were more straight. Along the way, we encountered a big group of sheep that were sleeping together and the group of sheep were there both ways of the hike (up and down). Some of us got to the top first and we waited there for the rest of the group that were taking pictures along the way or taking a small break. 

 In my personal experience at the castle, what got most of my attention was the stairs to go to the other levels of the castle. Myself and Alyssa Edwards (one of the group member) went up the stairs because we wanted to see the whole castle and we noticed that the steps were very small and tall. As we would up the steps, the steps would get taller and the space would get narrower. I say this got most of my attention because back in the day the people that lived there had to go up those stairs all the time and the stairs looked were very dangerous, in addition that the entire way up was very dark, it had a few windows that would not bring a lot of light to the stairs. 

Something that I enjoyed very much from the hike and the castle was the view that it had. From the top of the castle, you could see the valley, village, and everything that was around the castle. The view made me feel like I was on top of the world.
